HISTORY

“La Sorpresa” or The Surprise coffee bled is a great representation of the movement happening in the Nicaraguan specialty coffee industry, which includes a range of startling notes and flavors. More than 20 years ago, Nicaraguan coffees were recognized as classic and clean coffees suitable for blending. However, Caravela for 7 years has discovered and identified amazing profiles that had not been seen before.

Each cupping session is a “surprise” – a fusion of tropical, fruity, chocolate, caramel, and floral flavors, and aromas. Many sweet and balanced flavors found that have demystified areas previously believed to have no potential for high-quality coffee. Thus, each tasting in the dry mill or buying station is a surprise for the entire team and the producers – a surprise they gladly await every harvest. Thanks to the emphasis on better quality, farm management, best picking and postharvest practices, prolonged fermentation matched with consistent drying times, Nicaraguan coffee has managed to express itself as it is. And it continues to surprise us each harvest!
